Self reflection

Completing both assignments has significantly expanded my understanding of construction and material applications in architecture. The comprehensive case study required me to delve deeply into the architectural and structural materials used in a notable building, exploring their properties, applications, and impact on user experience. This research emphasized how material choices can influence both the functionality and aesthetic qualities of a building, and how they interact with their environment to enhance the overall design.

The second project, on the other hand, provided a hands-on opportunity to apply this knowledge by creating detailed construction specifications and models. Developing a roof-to-foundation construction section, a "cake slice" model, and a special construction detail required precise attention to how materials are used and assembled in real-world contexts. Working with dry construction techniques, I learned about the practical aspects of material behavior, durability, and the importance of accurate construction details in ensuring structural integrity and effective use of space.

These experiences underscored the critical role that materials and construction techniques play in shaping a building's performance and user experience. They highlighted the necessity of a thorough understanding of both theoretical concepts and practical applications in creating well-designed, functional, and sustainable architecture. Overall, these assignments have deepened my appreciation for the complexity of construction and the meticulous attention required in working with various materials.
