Task

For the final task, we were tasked to design a 150 sqm Hideout Retreat to accommodate ourselves and three others with similar interests for a 2-3 day stay. The retreat should include essential spaces like toilets and a pantry. The design must integrate with the tropical site context, making the architecture unique to its landscape and activities. Students should demonstrate their design intentions through architectural principles, materiality, and constructability to create a memorable spatial experience.

Reflection

Completing the Hideout Retreat assignment has been a rewarding experience. Designing a retreat for a specific group of people allowed me to focus on creating a space that is both functional and immersive. Integrating the tropical site context into the design challenged me to consider how architecture can harmonize with its environment, enhancing the overall experience. Balancing the need for essential amenities with the desire for a unique spatial experience pushed me to explore innovative solutions in materiality and constructability. The process of translating design intentions into a cohesive and memorable retreat has deepened my understanding of creating spaces that resonate with users and their surroundings. This project has reinforced the importance of context-sensitive design and has been a valuable learning opportunity in developing practical and aesthetic architectural solutions.
